History

Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj was very ciosely associated with the A.B.M.S. Parishad's activities right from its inception. Inspired by the thoughts and deed of Shahu Maharaj, A.B.M.S. Parishad established the college in the 1960, which very appropriately named after the king who spent all his life in the cause of social equality, education and upliftment of the poor. The foundation stone of the main building of the college was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1959, Shri Shahu Mandir Mahavidyalaya, Pune is one of the leading college in Maharashtra and is permanently affiliated to University of Pune. Recently the Peer Team of National Assessment & Accredition Council, Bangalore, Visited our college and appreciated the work done by our college and in its report under overall analysis observed that "Shri Shahu Mandir Mahavidyalaya over the last 43 years of its existence has played a very important role in spreading higher education among the most-disadvantaged section of the society. apart from its good performance in the academic field, the college has made its mark in sports and games, N.S.S. and N.C.C. activities winning many award." The college has been awarded B++ Grade (80% to 85% Marks) by the NAAC.

Today, the college has a three-storeyed main building with adequate number of classrooms, laboratories, common rooms, furniture and separate boys' hostel. Library building, canteen, parking lot etc. Thecollege campus is spread over a vast area of about 67 acres and has a very beautiful nad picturesque campus covered with more than one lakh trees, which provide shade, beauty and a very invigorathing environment for serious studies. The college is well-known in Maharashtra for which it was given 'vanashree Award' by Govt. of Maharashtra & 'Harit Pune Puraskar-2000' by Pune Municipal Corporation.
